Warm vs Cool Light: The Secret to a Cozy Home
Why your lighting feels 'off'
If a room feels cold or clinical, the bulb color is usually the culprit. Understanding color temperature is the fastest way to make your home feel cozy and expensive.
What the numbers mean
Color temperature is measured in Kelvin (K). Lower = warmer (yellow), higher = cooler (blue-white):
- 2700K–3000K (warm white) — cozy and flattering. Best for living rooms, bedrooms and dining.
- 3500K–4100K (neutral) — clean and balanced. Good for kitchens and bathrooms.
- 5000K+ (daylight) — bright and energizing, but can feel cold. Save it for garages and task areas.
The designer rule
For almost every living space, choose warm white (2700K–3000K). It's the single biggest trick to a cozy home. Pair it with the right fixture from our lighting collection for a warm, layered glow.
